I'm Coming Out Of This: Part 5- Coming Out of the Pit
A 5-Day Devotional Guide based on Psalm 40:1-8 (NIV)
"For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him. Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. Sacrifice and offering you did not desire—but my ears you have opened—burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, “Here I am, I have come—it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.” ’"

Day 1: The Power of Patient Waiting
Text: Psalm 40:1
“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.”
Key Thought:
Deliverance begins with faithful waiting, not frantic activity.
Reflection:
David repeats the Hebrew word for "wait" (qavah) to emphasize persistent, hope-filled trust. This kind of waiting requires surrender, not control.
Questions:
Prayer:
“Lord, teach me how to wait with faith, hope, and peace, knowing You are working even when I can’t see it.”

Reflection:
David repeats the Hebrew word for "wait" (qavah) to emphasize persistent, hope-filled trust. This kind of waiting requires surrender, not control.
Questions:
- Am I waiting on God or trying to fix it myself?
- What does it mean to trust God in silence?
Prayer:
“Lord, teach me how to wait with faith, hope, and peace, knowing You are working even when I can’t see it.”
Day 2: Lifted Out and Planted Secure
Text: Psalm 40:2
“He lifted me out of the slimy pit… set my feet on a rock…”
Key Thought:
God doesn’t just pull you out; He sets you up.
Reflection:
David describes deliverance not just as escape, but establishment. The “pit” represents despair, sin, or struggle. God’s rescue leads to a firm foundation — a place of stability, clarity, and peace.
Questions:
Prayer:
“Thank You, Lord, for lifting me. Help me walk steady on the solid ground You’ve given me.”

Day 3: A New Song in My Mouth
Text: Psalm 40:3
“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God…”
Key Thought:
A rescued soul becomes a praising soul.
Reflection:
God gives David a new song — not just a musical tune, but a fresh testimony. Worship is a witness, and praise is proof of God's power.
Questions:
Prayer:
“Lord, let my life sing a song of gratitude and faith that glorifies You and draws others to trust You.”
